Absolutely every organization in existence has burning issues. It’s a human dilemma.
And it’s quite amazing to us here at The Servant Group that things run as well as they do in most organizations knowing the propensity for human error…
So, we all are either in the midst of several important burning issues, coming out of them, or ready to go back into them! It’s a never ending cycle, and this part is normal in the scheme of business life.
What is not normal, though, is the habit of most entrepreneurs to just work harder and harder doing the same things. And then to be fully expecting the burning issues to go away, or at least be significantly mitigated.
Remember the old phrase, “having lost sight of our objectives, we’ve redoubled our efforts.” We’ve all been there, all of us hard driving type A’s, and even our colleagues the Type B’s!
It’s nobody’s fault. We all cut our teeth by imitating others. But the time has come to be defeating your burning issues.
Of course, all organizations and their owners and leaders should begin at Part 1 of Strategic Planning: Personal & Business Vision, and Business Design. The business exists to serve the owners and leaders…not the other way around.
Therefore, your Personal Vision really needs crystal clarity first. Next, the Business Vision must be clear, simple, trackable, and easily repeatable to all. Then, the most effective Business Design can be chosen to match that Personal Vision.
But we all know burning issues can capture our main focus. Consequently, Personal & Business Vision, and Business Design may need to wait just a bit until we conquer some of them.
What’s the first step in defeating burning issues?
Anonymously survey your Customers-Clients, Leadership Team and employees to reveal the top 3-5 burning issues. Make sure the survey is not just a brief online type, but with 3rd party help to develop personal 1-on-1 meetings to fully understand the depth and emotion. This will send a clear signal that you’re serious about dealing with issues where they live.
Make sure you choose one that when solutions and tracking are implemented, a Quick Success can be highlighted, accomplished, and celebrated. And the celebration should be a companywide event with proper emphasis and exposure.
Then the next Quick Success can be identified. Eventually, you can tackle the toughest Burning Issues, and they can and will be defeated!
At quarterly company updates, and at the annual session, these successes can be showcased. It’s amazing how much traction and longevity will result when this whole process is walked out correctly and consistently.
